Samuel K. Blumenthal, PE, CFM

Associate

KPA Engineers is excited to announce our newest Associate, Samuel K. Blumenthal, PE, CFM.

Sam began his career with KPA after graduating from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Since 2016, he has become a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM). He is also involved with several professional organizations and is currently serving as Secretary for the Central Texas Society of Professional Engineers.

Sam’s professional practice focuses on water resource planning and management. His expertise is in the holistic analysis of water, wastewater, and drainage systems. Through system-wide analyses of water and wastewater systems, Sam produces Master Planning guidance for utility providers which serves to evaluate the adequacy of their existing systems while simultaneously creating long-term improvement plans to meet projected growth. His Master Plans offer municipalities and utility providers guidance to serve their system needs through 30- and 50-year planning horizons.

Furthermore, Sam’s professional practice in water resources extends to floodplain modeling and management. As a certified floodplain manager, he studies the impacts of development on natural drainages through hydrologic and hydraulic modeling. The scope of these examinations ranges from site specific to entire watersheds. In addition to water resource planning and management, Sam models and designs storm water conveyance systems, storm water detention features, wastewater collection networks, water distribution systems, and lift stations. He also assists municipalities in the development of their GIS systems, in the creation of their capital improvement plans, and regularly supplies utility providers recommendations for stable system growth and operation. In all of his work, Sam continues developing strong data visualizations to support municipalities in understanding their infrastructure needs and communicating solutions.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Sam enjoys long distance backpacking, playing pedal steel with local bands around Austin, and spending time with his loving wife Tess. Sam and Tess are active in their church community and are eagerly awaiting Baby Blumenthal’s arrival this February.

In this next step of his career, Sam will continue his professional development in water resource planning and management. We’re excited to welcome him as our new Associate and appreciate his in-depth knowledge, commitment to the organization, eye for planning, and dependability.
