East West Gateway

Project Description: KPA Engineers and Covey Planning + Landscape Architecture are designing a transformative project along the Interstate 35 corridor, focusing on the strategic stretch between Central Avenue and Adams Avenue. This initiative, part of the broader East/West IH35 Gateway project, aims to enhance the portal between downtown Temple and West Temple through the introduction of visually striking gateway features and inviting landscape amenities.

The comprehensive scope of work includes an array of planning, landscape architecture, and engineering services. This encompasses design surveying, geotechnical investigations, civil, structural, and electrical design efforts, alongside expert landscape architecture and coordination with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). In addition to the design and planning phases, our team is committed to ensuring the project’s success through Construction Administration, Bidding, and On-Site Administration services. These critical components aim to oversee the construction process, ensuring adherence to the project’s vision, quality standards, and timelines. Our role extends beyond the drawing board, engaging with contractors and stakeholders throughout the construction phase to facilitate a seamless realization of the project objectives.

The vision for the East/West IH35 Gateway project includes the installation of art, monumental signage, intricate metal retaining walls, and visually appealing gravel/river rock beds, all complemented by strategic landscaping. This comprehensive landscaping plan will feature large specimen trees and hydromulch Bermuda grass, significantly enhancing the visual appeal and ecological value of the gateway. Additionally, the project will incorporate lighting and irrigation systems to sustain the beauty and health of the landscaped areas.

Funded primarily through the Reinvestment Zone, with a total budget of about $5.5 million and supplemented by an additional $540,000 from a Keep Texas Beautiful Governor’s Award, this project represents a significant investment in the community’s infrastructure and aesthetics. The East/West IH35 Gateway project stands as a testament to the collaborative effort between local authorities, KPA, Covey, and the community, aiming to create a welcoming and beautiful entrance that reflects the vibrant spirit of Temple.

Scope of Services: Civil, Electrical, and Structural Design, Geotechnical Investigations, Bidding, Surveying, On-Site Representation, and Construction Administration.
