Celebrating 25 Years of Engineering Excellence – The SSLGC Waterlines Project
In the late 1990s, engineer Ginger Tolbert, PE embarked on a journey that would change the landscape of the Schertz and Seguin communities in Guadalupe County. Today, we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Schertz/Seguin Local Government Corporation (SSLGC) Waterlines, Wells, Water Treatment Plant, and Pump Station project, a testament to Ginger’s unwavering commitment to engineering excellence.
The Birth of a Lifeline
The SSLGC Waterlines project began in 1998 with the goal of providing a reliable water supply for the Cities of Schertz and Seguin. Final design was completed in March 2001, and by February 2003, the project had transformed into a reality at a total cost of $51 million.
Engineering Feats
The project encompassed an impressive array of components, including more than 42 miles of water supply lines, ranging from 30-inch to 42-inch diameter pipes, and approximately 6 miles of well collection water lines, varying from 12-inch to 20-inch diameter. Additionally, it featured the construction of a Water Treatment Plant, Main Pump Station, Booster Pump Station, two 2,000,000 Gallon Ground Storage Tanks, and six Water Supply Wells, all strategically located in Gonzales County.
Challenges Overcome
Ginger Tolbert, PE, as the project engineer, navigated through a multitude of challenges. These included coordinating with seven sub-consultants, securing permits from various state and local entities, assisting in approvals from Gonzales County Underground Water District for the wells and managing six construction projects. The project’s major river crossing at the Guadalupe River, essential for connection to the Seguin Water System, was another significant hurdle Ginger and her team successfully conquered.
A Legacy of Dedication
The SSLGC Waterlines project stands as a testament to Ginger’s dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to the development of additional water supply sources. Her leadership and relentless pursuit of excellence have ensured a vital resource for generations to come.
