In late July, Belton re-opened MLK Avenue at Main Street. MLK was closed to help widen the street and give drivers additional space to turn. This was done by adding a striped gore on MLK along with a two-foot wide concrete median on Main between East Ninth Avenue and 10th Avenue.

The median will allow Ninth Street to become a right-in and right-out only street. It will also help drivers traveling north to turn left safely onto MLK Avenue. Previously, it made it difficult for drivers to turn causing them to drive 125 feet past the stop line, making it difficult to see the traffic light.

The widening of MLK Avenue was a piece of Belton’s four-part $3.1 million Sparta Road reconstruction project that began in May. KPA Engineers provided the civil design for all components of this project.
