The City of Belton, Texas contracted with KPA Engineers to determine the existing utilities that would be in conflict with the proposed TxDOT widening of IH-35 from US190 south approximately 7.5 miles to FM 2484 north of Salado.
KPA reviewed the 60% set of TxDOT plans to make the preliminary determination of existing utilities that would be in conflict with either horizontal or vertical improvements. Once the preliminary assessment was performed, KPA had approximately one month to prepare a review set of proposed utility relocations. The review set was successfully submitted within the short timeline set forth by TxDOT’s proposed bidding schedule. The design consisted of the relocation of approximately 1.5 miles of waterline (8” – 14”) and 1.5 miles of wastewater line (6” – 18”), 4,000 LF of steel encasement by bore (16” – 30”), relocation of a lift station and abandonment of approximately 2 miles of waterlines and 1.5 miles of wastewater lines. The design included coordination with TxDOT’s consultants along with the dry utilities (both existing and relocated).
In addition to determination of conflicts and design of the referenced relocations, KPA prepared the Reimbursable Agreement between TxDOT and the City of Belton and has acted as the City’s agent in numerous meetings with TxDOT and their design engineers.
